Private Work

A charge is made for services that are outside our ‘NHS’ work. These include some certificates to cover time off and for financial or insurance purposes.

Also included are passport applications, driving licences, vaccination certificates, and forms authorising private referrals.

We endeavour to complete these within 10 working days. At busy times this might not always be possible, as clinical work has to come first. If you feel you need something more urgently than this, please let us know when making the request.

Medical examinations for special purposes such as elderly drivers, pre-employment, fitness to undertake sports, HGV or PSV drivers are carried out at the surgery by appointment. Fees charged are in line with recommended BMA rates.

Ask at Reception for details.

Tests and X Ray

Laboratory Tests and X-Rays

Blood samples are taken in clinics with our Phlebotomist or Healthcare Assistants, daily before 2.30pm.

In special circumstances you may visit the hospital for a blood test. Please discuss this with a member of staff.

Results of routine tests and x-rays take 7—10 days to come back (cervical smears may take several weeks) .

You do not need to contact the surgery for your results.  If the doctor needs to see you, or you need some medication we will contact you.

Suture Removal/Dressings

We are now able to offer a service to remove sutures and staples and to dress minor wounds. Please ask to make an appointment with a Healthcare Assistant or Nurse.

Minor Surgery

Certain surgical procedures are performed by Drs Majid and Shabir at the surgery, by prior arrangement. These include the removal of moles, tags and cysts from the skin, and a wide range of joint injections.

Health Advice

Our Healthcare Assistants and Practice Nurses are trained to offer advice about a range of topics. These include; advice about healthy eating, stopping smoking, and managing long term health conditions. Please contact reception for an appointment.

Routine Immunisation for Adults

We encourage certain patients with chronic diseases and all patients aged 65 or over to be vaccinated against influenza every year. This is usually available from September by appointment. Please ask at Reception, before September, if you think you should receive a flu vaccine.

At 65 years old, patients are eligible for a one-off Pneumococcal vaccination, and between 70 and 79 years old patients can have the Shingles vaccination.

We will contact patients when it’s their turn to have the vaccines, but if you think you have missed your invitation or want to check that you are eligible, please contact our receptionists.

Travel Advice and Vaccinations

If you are planning to travel abroad, especially outside Europe, you may need extra vaccination. The nurse will give advice about necessary immunisations and general, hygiene and health topics. A charge will be made for services not covered by the NHS.

Please aim to contact the surgery at least eight weeks before travelling to allow time for vaccinations to be organised. If you are unable to give enough notice you will be given details of Travel Vaccination Clinics where there will be a charge.

We currently offer the following vaccinations for travel:

  • Cholera
  • Hepatitis A
  • Paratyphoid
  • Poliomyeltis
  • Smallpox
  • Typhoid

If you require any of these vaccination please complete the Travel Assessment Form below and hand in to the surgery at least 8 weeks before you plan to travel. We cannot guarantee an appointment with less than 8 weeks’ notice and recommend that you contact a local travel clinic.

We strongly advise that you seek advice from a local pharmacy or travel clinic regarding any additional vaccinations that you may require.

Information about which immunisations are required for the countries you are travelling to can be found via the link below.

Teenagers and Our Surgery

Although it is preferable to see patients  aged under 16 with a parent, we appreciate that there may be times when you will wish to see us on your own. This is fine, and you can make an appointment in the normal way through reception. Anything discussed will of course be confidential.  Contraception is available for patients under 16. Please see the Doctor.

Please remember when visiting the surgery on your own that your parent or guardian may have access to view your health record and / or order prescriptions online on your behalf. Please talk to the Doctor if you would like to manage your own online health record.

Cervical Smears

A smear every three years is recommended for most women between ages 25 and 49 years, and every five years between 50 and 64 years. You will receive an invitation when it is your turn, and you should make an appointment with a practice nurse. After your appointment, you will be sent your results in the post. The nurse will be able to advise how long your results will take.

Family Planning

Advice is given on all standard methods of birth control including pre-conceptual advice and emergency contraception. Appointments can be made with the practice nurse or doctor. Coil and implant fitting can be arranged at the local Contraception and Sexual Health clinic (see numbers).
